It is with much humility that I am proud to announce that I have been chosen by the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria as the Yachtsman of the Year.
I am very honoured to receive this award. It is certainly something that I never expected, to be recognised by so many people that I grew up idolising, and I am both humbled and somewhat embarrassed to be chosen in a year when so many have achieved so much. None of this would have been possible without the tireless support and contributions of so many people. I started on this journey because I didn't want to go through life with any regrets and I have so many to thank for allowing me to follow my passion.
Firstly, I would like to thank the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, it's members and Committee for their constant encouragement and support. I'm proud to call Royals home and no matter where this journey takes me, I will never forget the people that were with me from the beginning.
I would also like to thank my sponsors The Sanctuary Lakes Foundation, Sunshine & Western Region Sports Club, Doyle Sails, Horner, BBQs Plus and all those individual club members who donated to My Journey. Without your generous support, it would not have been possible to make the trip to New Zealand in the first place and these wonderful opportunities that I have now been given would never have existed.
Finally, I would like to thank my family. They have been a constant rock in a sometimes stormy sea and I will never be able to repay their unconditional love and support throughout my sailing, schooling and life in general. People always tell me that who you are as a person is defined by the people that you surround yourself with. I'm surrounded by nothing but great people. I've been so lucky throughout my life and by accepting this award, I'm really just acknowledging the wonderful opportunities I've been given by so many.
I would also like to add my congratulations to Dad. I know he's very proud to be chosen as Club Member of the Year as Royals means so much to our family.
To give you all a quick update. I will be leaving to compete at the Aircalin Match Racing Cup in Noumea next week so I look forward to reporting back on the event and my first trip to New Caledonia.
As always, thanks for your support.
